Match Report – U14 County League, Game 1 V. Bishopstown
The U14 camogie squad delivered an outstanding performance last night, overcoming a strong Bishopstown side on their home turf. From the first whistle, the girls exploded into action, firing over three quick points before Bishopstown had time to settle.
We were dealt two early setbacks with injuries to our dangerous forward Clódagh Finn and our commanding centre-back Danielle Quaine. Thankfully, after treatment, both returned to the pitch and immediately resumed influencing and dominating their match‑ups. Ellen Murphy and Evie O’Donnell entered the game during this spell and made a big impact with their work rate and composure.
Our defence was rock solid throughout. Goalkeeper Fiadh Mulcahy stood tall, pulling off several brilliant saves. The full‑back line of Ciara Farah who was powerful as always, the “New Rock” Rachel O’Callaghan, and the teak‑tough Sinéad Conway were reminiscent of the Cork senior full‑back line of the early 2000s. In the half‑back line, we saw immense performances from the ever‑present Sadie Dunne, the returning Danielle Quaine, and the dominant Orlaith Ní Shúilleabháin.
Midfield was controlled superbly by the industrious Aoife O’Connell and the imperious Éireann Finn, who landed some crucial scores at key moments throughout the game.
Our half‑forward line of Lily O’Connor, Ashley McCarthy and Emma Duggan worked tirelessly. Ashley produced a trojan performance, while the effervescent Emma landed points from all angles, including a sensational long‑range free from 50 yards out that stood out as the score of the game. Lily moved back to her more natural half‑back role in the second half and bossed proceedings from there.
Up front, our full‑forward line carried serious firepower. The crafty Chloe Clifford tormented the Bishopstown defence, setting up multiple goal chances, especially after the break. One such move saw her slip a clever handpass across the square to Clódagh Finn, who was pulled back by the helmet, resulting in a penalty. Caoilainn Hegarty, our star scorer on the night, stepped up and buried it with ice‑cold composure. Hegarty’s overall display was nothing short of majestic as she finished with a superb tally of 3–2.
A huge well done to the entire squad on a brilliant display of competitive, committed team camogie. We now look ahead to our next round of fixtures against Bandon, Blarney, and Killeagh.
