Game 4 of the U13 Imokilly Camogie League saw Erins Own welcome Watergrasshill to Caherlag yesterday evening. With Watergrasshill arriving on the back of two convincing wins, this was always going to be a serious test for our girls — and they rose to it magnificently.
Erins Own burst out of the blocks, striking for an early goal inside the opening two minutes through the ever‑alert Clódagh Finn. From there, the first half became a battle of defensive grit. Both back lines were immense, shutting down attacks and forcing turnovers.
In goals, Fiadh Mulcahy produced a string of vital blocks and saves, keeping Watergrasshill to the bare minimum and giving her team huge confidence. By half‑time, Erins Own held a narrow but hard‑earned lead, built on sheer work rate and defensive discipline.
Watergrasshill came out firing after the break and dominated the opening quarter of the second half, pinning Erins Own deep and launching wave after wave of attack. But our defence refused to yield.
Once again, Mulcahy was extraordinary, saving shots from every angle, commanding her square, and even deflecting a thunderous penalty over the bar that looked destined for the roof of the net. It was a heroic performance that kept Erins Own firmly in the contest.
A few clever positional switches and the introduction of fresh legs swung momentum back our way. The impact was immediate, with well‑taken goals from Sophia Madden and Aoife O’Connell giving Erins Own breathing room heading into the closing stages.
What followed was a composed, united finish from a squad that is growing in confidence every week.
This was an outstanding team performance — full of heart, resilience, and no shortage of skill. Huge credit to every player and to the management team for another excellent display of camogie.
The future of the club looks incredibly bright with this group of young stars coming through.
